Tweet! Tweet! July 2012

I'm not sure if Twitter is going to keep all my tweets forever and ever. Because they are often little snippets about my very glamorous and exciting daily life (and aren't good enough stories to make a blog post) with my family, I will preserve them on this blog monthly.

Chicago Vacation - Part II

The next part of our Chicago vacation involved more fun in the sun, and this time we were at the lake:

I have a problem with sunscreen.  I can't stop using it, and apply it to every child I see.  In this picture, I made them all the kids line up (their gratefulness abounds):

To be continued...next post "CAMP GORMLEY!" Here are a few sneak peeks:

Chicago Vacation - Part I

I think my family needs a vacation from our vacation.  We had SO much fun, and are so ridiculously tired from our adventures in Chicago.

We flew standby on the way there on my dad's passes, and only Brooke and I made the first flight.  Zak and Maddie had to go back home and catch the second flight six hours later.  I've been flying standby for my entire life, so I'm really comfortable with the entire process.  However, try to explain it to a 5 year old!  Brooke was very confused, and Maddie & Zak were just irritated.  But HEY, FREE FLIGHTS!!  SHUT IT!

My Dad and Susan are really the ones that got the short end of the stick because they've got to pick us up at the airport TWICE! Ugh.

As expected, Dad and Susan had some fun things like 4th of July trinkets, glow sticks, and silly string.

My dad and Susan live within walking distance of this great park where the local community puts on an amazing fireworks show.  Dad set our our blankets and chairs at 5:00 in the morning to get this awesome spot for us.  Thanks, Papa!!

While we were waiting for the fireworks, I tried to convince Brooke and Maddie to sell some of the glow sticks and necklaces that we had fired off.  The girls were totally convinced that if they wanted to save for college, they must begin to sell and save NOW!  They wondered around for a bit, but ended up giving away most of them to other random kids whose parents were mean enough to not bring their own.

Stars and stripes (and stripes and more stripes!)

The fireworks were simply awesome, and we were almost right under them.  It was probably the first time that the girls have ever been so close to fireworks and seen a real show. Maddie was worried about being so close, and kept asking if we were safe!  I think she inherited my fear of fireworks.

On Friday, we went to the local community waterpark/pool.  (When I was a kid, a pool was a pool, but today, "pools" have water slides, beach entry, parks, climbing structures, diving boards...jeeze!)   Needless to say, it was freakin' amazing, and the kids LOVED it.  This was the first time my kids had ever seen diving boards, and this particular pool had a high dive.

Zak first told the girls they couldn't jump off of it, so they just settled for the low and medium level boards.  Then, I marched over there encouraging them to jump from the high dive.

"Daddy said we couldn't do it."

WHAT?!?  Haaahhha....OF COURSE you can!  YOU can do anything! Can you jump?

Can you swim?

Then, GO!  Mama will take your picture!

Zak stood guard like a fierce lion ready to rescue his pups, along with one bajillion Life Guards, and I hooted and hollered from below snapping away with my camera.

Confidence, I'll force feed it to 'em if I have to!!

My baby...growing her wings and flyin'!

Best jump of the day!!

The girls rocked that high dive, and Brooke was probably one of the youngest kids jumping.

Papa and Susan had fun playing with the girls too!

Friday morning, we packed up Susan's car (thank you!!!) and drove an hour south to Coal City for some fun on the lake with our friends!

Stay tuned for Chicago Vacation--Part II
