I'm not sure if Twitter is going to keep all my tweets forever and ever. Because they are often little snippets about my very glamorous and exciting daily life (and aren't good enough stories to make a blog post) with my family, I will preserve them on this blog monthly.

Tooth down!

Brooke lost her front tooth last night.  This is #5!  She looks like a hillbilly, and there are TWO more on top that are very loose too.  She'll never be able to eat if they are all gone at the same time!

The missing tooth had been loose for a while, and was just barely hanging in there.  It fell out when I removed her t-shirt.  I guess the tooth got stuck on the fabric, and when I pulled the shirt off her head, the tooth came with it.  There was more blood with this tooth than any othes I've ever seen.  She was crying, confused about all the blood, then I realized that the tooth came out.  We looked for about 20 minutes for it, and it never turned up (we have deeeeeppp carpet).  Madison decided the best course of action was to write a note to the Tooth Fairy explaining the situation.

We stopped looking, then found it immediatly.  Ha.

This morning, Madison, who no longer belives in the tooth fairy, knowingly whispered, "Good thing you had a dollar bill in your wallet, huh?"

wink, wink

On Politics

Dear Maddie and Brooke,

The 2012 Presidential election is around the corner. Because Texas is a "red" state, we don't get nearly as many political ads as most other states.  It still cracks me up that Texas is mostly Republican, because based JUST on our demographics, Texas should be decidedly Democratic.  People just don't vote, I guess.  Well, every vote counts, and I'm not going to let the fact that Texas will be still be RED stop me.  I hope it starts to turn PURPLE soon, then by the time you can vote, it may be BLUE! <--did you see how I did that?! God, I'm so clever!

In the 2008 Presidential election, I wrote to you both about why I was voting for Obama. (Pay close attention to the moronic comments of that post too.)  I still believe all of those things I wrote, and that's still why I'm voting for him again, but I felt compelled to share something I found online that really gets to the heart of why I'm voting for Obama again.

There's this comic I follow on Twitter, Rob Delaney, who is super funny (and often too inappropriate for your eyes), and he was asked who he planned to vote for this year, and I found his decision and explanation SPOT ON:

"In the presidential election I will vote for Barack Obama because I believe he has a vastly superior plan to get many more Americans health insurance. He has also nominated two SCOTUS justices that make decisions that I feel are better for our nation's interests than Romney has said he would. I really vote on 2 issues: healthcare and education. AND I see these as far more important to our country's future economic strength, too, than absolutely any other issues. American is made of Americans. Educate them, make it impossible for their kids' leukemia to bankrupt them, and they will kick ass here and around the globe. Look up Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs. UNTIL Americans have their brains nourished and their bodies cared for better, they won't give a shit about global warming, human rights, energy independence or foreign affairs. You start with the foundation! Barack Obama is so very far from perfect, but with the ACA, his education plans, and SCOTUS noms, I believe it is fair to say he is MONSTROUSLY, SHOCKINGLY more qualified to be president of this nation I love so very much."

Yeah, me too.  Crossing my fingers!

love you both,

Grandparent's Day

Today Grandparent's Day was celebrated at Brooke and Maddie's school.  I'm so thankful that Zak's mom, Wendy, lives close enough that she can attend these kinds of events.  The school literally told us two days in advance that this was going to happen!   The girls were SO SURPRISED to see their Grandma!

In Brooke's Kindergarten class, Grandma got to tour the room, see Brooke's desk, and read books.  We brought "Six Sticks" from home because I knew Brooke could read it to her Grandma.
After Brooke's class, we went to see Madison, who was equally surprised to see Wendy.

They worked on a puzzle together to try to think of as many words as possible using these scrambled up letters: G-R-A-N-D-P-A-R-E-N-T-S. I was really surprised how well 2nd graders were able to do this! They thought of TONS more words than I was able to! The final question was to see if they could figure out the BIG word out of the mixed up letters.  Madison was the first kids to guess "grandparents" (and I had no idea until she told me).  My girl is smart!
The kids were asked to spell out the words the discovered, and they charted them by how many letters each word contained.  They played around and made the words plural, past tense, and learned new words like "Tread."  (That's Maddie's teacher, Ms. Myers, and I was impressed!).
 Happy Grandparent's Day!!

Labor Day

We didn't go anywhere for Labor Day, but we still kept busy (too busy) doing fun stuff as a family.

On Saturday, we went to a new family fun place where we bowled, played laser tag, games, and climbed on a ropes course. I should say that I did the ropes course...everyone else was a scardy cat.  Maddie got suited up, and climbed to the top, but froze in fear.  Tears. The guides led her down, and I just hung out and walked around on ropes by myself.  Zak took some pictures:

I don't have any pictures from Laser Tag, but it was super fun, and quite the work out.  First, I played with just Zak, then the four of us played a game, then Zak sat out while the girls and I played.  I'm pretty sure it counted as Cardio for the day because between the running, squatting, anticipation of getting shot and heart rate was deffinatly in the target zone.  45 minutes TOTAL Laser Tag.

Then, we played video games:

Then, we bowled:

Then we went played some air hockey, and there was some SERIOUS trash talkin' going on!

Then, we went home and passed out!

On Sunday, we drove to Fredericksburg for Becker Vineyard's Annual Grape Stomp.  We met some friends and mashed some grapes with our bare feet.  Grape stomping isn't on my bucket list, but I totally should have added it because it's not an everyday experience!

A foot hover....that's about all Brooke would do! :(
Maddie and her best friend, Lindsay, weren't afraid of some grape skin, and went to town on those grapes!

We were at a Vineyard, so of course, WINE tasting!

On Monday, we spent time running errands and stopped by a gym that we're considering joining.  They have an awesome pool and slide that the girls just loved!  So did I! Watch our water slide train where I nearly drown my children.

What struck me as totally bizarre-o is that this pool closed on Labor Day.  Why? Because temps in San Antonio drop to freezing the second week of September?  Holy moly! It's plenty warm enough to swim until HALLOWEEN! If the gym wasn't elevenbajaillionty dollars a month, we would probably join.

We got a pass for a free month to see if we want to join, and of course, it's super awesome and meets all our needs and is IN our subdivision.  They have everything you could want (including an indoor pool for those chilly September days!) and group exercise classes like yoga, Pilates, body pump, spinning, Zumba, etc...A racquetball courts, basketball courts.

Our salesperson actually said, "you can even shoot hoops with some the San Antonio Spurs who live nearby!"  LOL. (Can you just picture me "shooting hoops" with David Robinson or Tim Duncan?  He went on and actually dropped their names.  Well, David IS retired, so I could probably dunk on him.)  I'm going to hang out one afternoon at the court to see if I can spot him, and ask if he wants to play HORSE with me.

The good news is that Zak has been going to the gym EVERYDAY this week.  Hooray! He walks the girls to the bus stop, and takes off for the gym before 7:00, showers there, and gets to work by 8:30.

Does anyone have elevenbajillionty dollars to lend me each month?  I'll get you a guest pass! :)
