Yard sign

Maddie put this sign in the yard last night. I'm sure my neighbors think I'm a great mother. (For the record, Zak and I don't have any tattoos).

So Terra can give tourists directions

Maddie wanted to give Aunt Terra a tattoo, and she knows how much Terra loves the beach, so this is what she got.

(Hi Mary, Maddie can give you one too when we come down for a visit!)

Ant-ie Easter

Happy Easter!

Every Easter since Brook could walk, we've celebrated at the lake house with an Easter Egg Hunt. Zak and I spend the night before drinking cold beverages stuffing and then hiding Easter Eggs. We always worry that the weather be rainy and spoil our eggs, however, this year, we should have been more concerned about ANTS!!

The Girls ran in different directions trying to snag as many eggs as they could.

Two of our Eggs were filled with Ants, and after some initial screaming and freaking out about ANTS IN OUR EGGS! the girls finally were satisfied with their loot.

The Girls spent several more minutes sorting through their eggs, and in their typical personalities, Maddie sorted and organized by candy type. Brooke made a giant pile and started eating as much as she could.

Then the gifts and cards from the Grandparents were opened. They screamed thank yous loud enough that you may have been able to hear them in Chicago and Laguna Vista.

Once the sugar high was in fully throttle mode, the Girls did all sorts of silly things.

What's the score?

I found this score card from some random game that Madison and Brooke were playing over the weekend. Poor Brooke, she's never going to win if she always plays by her sisters rules.

Happy Anniversary--12 years!

Happy Anniversary to the bestest awesomey husband and friend I could ever ask for.
Zak and I were married on April 17, 1999 on the beautiful island of Maui surrounded by not nearly enough friends and family. In our EIGHTEEN (ahem!) years together, we've ...

  • moved 16 times (because we're on the lamb from the law) but thankfully not in the last 5 years

  • created two beautiful children, and are trying to raise them to not be too dependent on us so we can move to a tropical island when we're 50 and play on the beach for the rest of our lives

  • gone on countless vacations (sadly not very many in the last six years--hello family, are you listening?)

  • earned a few college degrees

  • thoughtlfully planned, consulted and co-managed our lives together (usually nicely)

  • have lots of fun

  • made plans for our future

  • always put our marriage before anything else

(There were never none not any non-alcoholic beverages in those cups prior or after to the age of 21 possibly or perhaps. I'm not really sure I can or can't remember, dad.).

Fiesta 2011

So, it's Fiesta time in San Antonio. Which means that we have a city "holiday" today. Which means the schools are closed. Zak's and my employer do not view Fiesta as a legitimate "you get the day off" type of holiday. So, chalk up another vacation day without a real vacation.

Pure discrimination, I say!
Brooke's float for the Fiesta parade was a shopping cart, turned into a piñatas scene.
Get it? There is a girl piñata hitting another donkey piñata?

I didn't think you'd get it.

This was Brooke's third Fiesta parade at her school, but the first time she was in a class that required "floats."

Here's some rockin' footage of last year...which was exactly the same as this year (minus Madison), so I figured I didn't need to record it again. (also see: mother of the year)

I'm pretty sure that the parents should really be walking the parade route while the kids watch. After all, WE do all the work!

Four year olds are good for nuthin'.

(¡Viva Fiesta!)

Dual Language example

It's amazing to me that Maddie can do this type of school work. Not only is it in Spanish (which she can now read), but it seems to me to be very advanced math-type thinking.

Honestly, I would have never even thought that a 6 year old could do this. Maddie is lucky that I'm not home schooling her!

Trouble in Kinder

Zak and I were called in for a Parent Teacher conference today. Maddie is excelling academically, but is "bossy and has a hard time following instructions." Her desk was moved so she is now right next to her teacher. (I'm pretty sure Maddie thinks this makes her the co-teacher now...a promotion.)

Needless to say, Zak and I were not too happy about this. After the meeting, Maddie brought me this note: Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

grey hairs

Look at that grey beard! These Girls are wearing out this poor man.

Yo mama's Spinach Salad

Zak took the girls out for hamburgers, and I am loving my dinner alone.

Spinach salad with roasted golden beets, tomatoes, raspberries, red onion, toasted pine nuts drizzled with homemade balsamic and basil vinaigrette. There is a little side of warmed goat cheese and grilled scratch made ciabatta bread.

Can you tell that I'm not at all proud of myself? It is the best spinach salad ever!

Go veg!

Saturday morning at the Farmer's Market

The girls are far more interested in the baked goods at the Farmer's Market than the Vegetables. Trying to teach them benefits of buying local and in season.

Guess what's for dinner? Roasted Carrots and Beets!

Tweet! Tweet! March 2011

I have no idea why this post is a long run on sentence. I've been blogging for 6 years, and am as clueless as always...... I'm not sure if Twitter is going to keep all my tweets forever and ever. Because they are often little snippets about my very glamorous and exciting daily life (and aren't good enough stories to make a blog post), I will preserve them on this blog monthly. Behold! March 2011 I have a bug bite just below my right eyebrow. It's swollen and looks like I took a left hook. I'm really not as tough as I look. 30 Mar RT @ If you're the smartest person in the room, your organization is dumb. Yes!
