At the Lake House

Busy, busy, busy. I'm tired of being so busy. Last weekend we decided to get really busy doing really important things.

Zak and Brooke wondered if they could find a perfect rock to fit their butts and stared at the water...

going for a walk...

grilling our dinner...

eating all meals outside (including breakfast in our PJ's)...

playing for hours on this swing...

capturing caterpillars...

cuddling in the hammock...

Actually, our most favorite thing to do at the Lake House is NOTHING. Wanna come over and do NOTHING with us?

My Pops

My Pops passed away last night. He's been suffering for a long time now, and was in hospice care since December. I traveled to San Diego just before Christmas to see him, then he got a bit better, then suddenly took a turn for the worse. He was surrounded by family last night when he passed.
Pops loved this blog. He would tell me how much he appreciated hearing about my life with Zak and The Girls and seeing pictures. In fact, just yesterday I called him to tell him about the Fiesta Parade and to check the blog to see pictures and videos. I also told him that I was planning a trip to San Diego for Memorial Day weekend, and he said, "I don't think I'll make it that long." I heard from family that he was unable to talk to anyone just a few hours after that call. I'll be eternally grateful to have had those few minutes with him on the phone and that I was able to say how much I loved him.

I've written about him several times here, please take a look at three of my favorite posts:
Pops was a Prisoner of War in WWII
His story
His wacky advice

Madison, 8 months, with her great grandpa and Pat (he got remarried after my grandmother passed in 1994).

Dancing at a bar during my college graduation weekend.

Pops (and my dad) flew to Lubbock for my college graduation in December 1996. I was one of the first to ever earn a college degree in the family, and he was so proud.

Pops (my dad and brother) flew to Hawaii for our wedding in 1999.

I love you, Pops!

Fiesta San Antonio 2010!

Every year the city of San Antonio celebrates 11 days of Fiesta, and even recognizes the Battle of the Flowers as a city holiday. This means that schools are closed and parties are the norm tomorrow! It's basically like a second Christmas around here during Fiesta time, and all the proceeds from the parties and events are donated to local charties.

Kids have parades at their schools, and the "big" kids make floats. Last year, Maddie and Brooke both walked in the parade, but this year Maddie had her first float!

Maddie took a practice run in the front yard yesterday, but decided to pull the "float" in the parade today.

The full set of pictures is up on Flickr if you want to check out all the kids (and I recommend you do because they are HILARIUS!).

Brooke's class had a Texas theme, and chanted "God loves Texas" over and over.

There are more videos up on YouTube if you'd like to check them out. Also, ten points for the first person to guess the original purpose of Maddie's float!

Eleven years

Eleven years ago today on a beach in Maui, Zak and I got married.

We are celebrating our eleven year marriage by demo'ing the inside of our house. We're getting new paint on 90% of the walls, hardwood floors downstairs, and carpet upstairs over the next 10 days. I'm sure those ten days will feel like ten years!

We've had two babies, and parenting those two monkeys is the HARDEST work either one of us has ever done. If we can survive children, surely, we can survive a remodel! Pray for us!

Happy Anniversary, poops! Loves.

So, my excuse is...

I've been working way too much. That is why I haven't been blogging. I have plenty to share (Maddie and Brooke's bday party, Brooke's third b-day letter, Easter, random silly stuff, my trip to Lubbock, family yoga, our extreme home makeover that is starting in the next few days, etc!), but simply have fallen off the bloggy wagon. Here's a really good reason to get back on:

I work from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, and on the weekends whenever I can. I take a few hours off when the girls get home from school for dinner, play, and bath time, and then I'm back to work. The good news is my business is totally cyclical, so I'll be lying by the pool doing practically nothing this summer (or so I've been promised!).

I also feel this immense pressure to tell a story around every photo or event. It's self inflicted pressure. Grandparents (and GREAT grandparents) just want pictures, and I feel like I've been letting those very people, who I started blogging for, down! I'm sorry.

I'm really not a perfectionist, but most people would say so, I'm just highly EFFICIENT. I don't do many things that are considered waste of time. When I do carve out time, it's spent with Zak, the girls, or an occasional yoga class. I finally got a pedicure today, but I worked on my laptop the entire time. Pathetic! My nose is in the computer all the time, so typing (more stuff) is usually the last thing I want to do.

Thanks for the reminder to all of you who've sent me email recently. I hear you, and love you all for reminding me to not forget to take time to care for the things that I love. My family, my friends, and my blog!

Let the lectures begin...
